An integrated information management system on environmental data jointly elaborated in Czech-German

Today sees the closure of the PHARE Twinning Project called “Environmental Information and Management System (CENIA)“ aimed at building an integrated information management system in the environmental area and which has been financed by the EU Phare programme. Total price of the project has been 950 000 EURO. Within the last 20 months experts from Germany in co-operation with the Czech Ministry of the Environment developed an integrated management system to ease the information flow between all stakeholders in the environmental sector. Meanwhile, the relevant Czech Environmental Agency (CENIA) is established effective from 1 April 2005.

The German Resident Advisor responsible for the project, Dr. Heinrich Schneider commented:

“The installation of CENIA is a great improvement for the environment of the Czech Republic. Twinning as an instrument for institution building proved to be a perfect tool for implementing the new information management. Czech and German know-how together created one of the most elaborated knowledge systems in the environmental sector in Europe.”

The German Resident Advisor responsible for the project, Claus Heuberger commented:

“The successful implementation of the new management system promotes the Czech Republic to the leading nation of Europe in environmental information affairs. The operational and organisational structure of the new CENIA might function as a role model for the environmental administrations in the remaining member states and in the institutions of the European Union.”
